Birth Arts International Doula Workshop
Birth Arts International is a holistic doula and childbirth education organization that was co-founded by Kara Spencer and Demetria Clark in 2000. Today, Kara is the US Director while Demetria is the Global Director from the Birth Arts office in Switzerland. We have two other Birth Arts teachers in the US, and have many students and graduates from all over the world. You are invited to join our global Birth Arts community and bring nurturing, support, and advocacy to women, babies, and families world-wide. www.birtharts.com

Join us for an immersion into the science and spirit of labor support and become a Birth Arts Doula. Learn how to provide support for women and babies through pregnancy, labor, birth, and immediate postpartum. The training includes a weekend workshop, an extensive workbook, and on-going mentoring through distance work to complete certification as a Certified Birth Arts Doula.

Birth Arts offers a complete birth doula training integrating evidence-based maternity care research with traditional women's wisdom and intuition. The workshop includes hands-on experiential practice in bodywork, rebozo, labor support techniques, and non-pharmacological methods of pain relief. Kate Jordan Seminars: Bodywork For the Childbearing Year
Bodywork for the Childbearing Year® approaches the concerns of the pregnant, laboring, and postpartum woman with a comprehensive program of advanced massage techniques and specific pregnancy, labor, and postpartum support measures. Sessions taught take therapists far beyond general adaptations of massage for the pregnant body. Students learn to competently and confidently address the specific structural, physiological, and psychological discomforts of pregnancy.

This workshop presents the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, labor, and birth in the context of those techniques that therapists can most effectively use to provide relief and support to their pregnant clients. Students learn to identify contraindications to pregnancy massage, as well as to recognize high-risk pregnancies. Participants are provided with intake forms for clients and release forms for health care providers and learn how to use them appropriately. Relevant research documenting the benefits of touch during the childbearing year is presented to prepare students to describe the benefits of pregnancy, labor, and post-partum massage to health care providers.

Bodywork for the Childbearing Year®‚ provides an intensive hands-on learning experience. Instruction is 25% lively lecture and discussions and 75% demonstration and practice of techniques. One of the outstanding features of the program is an opportunity to work on a pregnant client in a practicum session during the course.

Kate Jordan Seminars is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider.
